Steve Johnston

Born Glasgow 1956 Cumbria college of Art & Design 1973-'76.

Steve previously worked as a photographer based in London working for magazines such as Vogue, I-D etc; his work was published in various books and magazines and was included in the 'Lives' exhibition curated by Derek Boshier at the Hayward gallery London, he returned to painting in 1991.

Since 2004 his work has been successfully published as Ltd edition prints with many of them selling out and his originals are collected worldwide.

Artist Statement...
'I approach my 'backgrounds' very much as an abstract painter, colours, composition etc are chosen instinctively rather than being pre planned.

Certain images can unlock powerful emotions which can be separate from the actual content of the picture…the aim is to portray an essence and emotion rather than a precise person or specific location'.
